Sweat is dripping down your back, you’re feeling closer to being summer ready.. Your wireless headphones have delivered some sassy empowerment that only Beyoncé can give you. You’re exactly where you should be, you’re so happy to have gotten off your butt & all of a sudden…. Your hair tie is slipping and in the blink of an eye you feel your entire bun start to unravel. Its like the way animals have 6th senses about tornados and earthquakes. Stillness then full blown PANIC!
I’ve had thick, heavy, wavy hair my entire life. When styled I’ve been told that it looks like a “wig” because it’s so full. The hair tie has been both my savior & arch nemesis all in one. Unrelenting headaches, slippage and tangled unruly hair … ouchie!
Boa constrictor style grip of dozens of my thick strands intricately woven around hair ties leaving me wondering how in the hell my hair got threaded so painfully around that hair tie. Hair casualty!!
One of my Instagram scroll fests led my index finger to land on an advertisement for Gimme. In this day & age of “whoever wants to pay for an ad can pay $ & how up on your feed” has left me skeptical of advertisers in general. Instagram ads have recently left me feeling like I’m watching an infomercials but a social media versio. A version full of outlandish claims, and scammer companies unable to deliver on promises. Not a great feeling! So you can see why I was so skeptical of Gimme Beauty’s claims of superiority- stating that they created a better version of hair ties to solve all of my hair woes.
The comments on social media and reviews on their website swung me into diving into make a purchase (btw, after about 5 min of google searching I found a coupon code! 100% sweetening the deal). My current hair tie situation is whatever is sold at Walmart or Target which left me eagerly ready for an upgrade!
So lets go over what the unicorn of hair ties claim. Straight from the horses mouth! I’ve copied the claims directly from their advertising on social media and website:

"No snagging- Easy to Remove" - 5 "Secure yet gentle" - 5 "Wont stretch out" - 5 so far! but only two weeks deep!
the conclusion:
My testing was only done over a 2 week period but I can & will update my blog to see if these hair ties truly live up to hype. The claims that the bands will retain elasticity for 6 months is what I really want to put to the test My goal will be to use the same hair tie for as long as possible. The main hair ties that are being genuinely reviewed are the Black onyx 6 piece hair ties but the starter set purchased and mentioned is HERE,
I will say, I’m impressed with the comfort of the ties and the overall stability. Since my hair ties are used in what would be considered “heavier duty” situations AKA the gym! My workouts can range from heavy duty to moderate, but overall my body is constantly moving. My hair ties have been known to fail during HIIT classes, but so far I have not experienced that with these hair ties! YAY! I haven’t used them while jogging but I will, and will update my review after 6 months of use!
Headaches were a common side effect of my regular ties, and I can happily say that I have had significantly less headaches. I often times would have to take my hair down to get some rest, especially on car rides. Such a contrast, because during the last two weeks I have forgotten that my hair has been up for extended periods of time. I have also fallen asleep with my hair in a tight bun (by accident) with out discomfort. In one of the advertisements the company mentions that the ties do not leave dents or marks on the hair, but that’s not actually true. That claim isn’t present in all of the advertisements or website- but I have seen it mentioned before.
I will say, that the bands do not rip out all of my squirly rebellious hair. So that alone has been a big plus. With that being said, the bands are thick and they have a reflective logo that looks sporty. I’ve had to make sure that the logo is hidden when I’ve worn my hair up for nicer occasions. They do appear bulky when used to finish off braids, so I will still use traditional hair ties for that purpose. I want my braids to look finished and polished, and because my hair is shorter it just looks like a little kids braid with a bulky hair tie at the end.
So after my short two weeks of continuous use I can give this product a thumbs up. I will update my review at the 6 month mark. Will be reporting back with before and after pictures of the condition of the bands as well.
what are some of your hair concerns? Thin hair? super curly hair? heavy hair? hopefully some of my thick, heavy, wavy haired brothers and sisters can benefit from me being the guinea pig!
Also, comment whatever products you think I should check out & test the hype. HYPE
